Ideal 31133 mold

The Ideal 31133 Mold is the factory Hollow point version of the 3118 (later 311008). The Hollow point cavity is fairly deep, roughly 2/3 the length of the bullet, and approximately .090 in diameter. I like this bullet cast from a soft binary 8 BHN alloy of lead and tin at about  at about 900-1400 FPS depending on application.

In the late 19th century, when cartridges had taken over from muzzle loading, but black powder was still the propellent of choice, the concept that a lighter bullet with the same bearing length could provide a faster, better killing projectile on game while stabilizing in the same twist. They were able to accomplish this with either hollow based, or hollow pointed bullets. These bullets were originally referred to as ‘express’ bullets, because they arrived at the target more quickly than they ‘standard’ bullet over the same load of back powder.

Available sized .308-.313 and cast in either 6-8bhn alloy or in 12-14 bhn alloy
